Text - The place where I work is generally pretty loud, so it's often hard to catch the student's names. However, a nifty trick l've picked up is to look at the name that pops up on their computer log in when they open their laptops. This usually works pretty wellI, but today was a completely different story. The student's log in name was set to 'Lenovo Signature, to which I thought, 'huh, what an alternative name!'

Text - I continued calling this student Lenovo throughout the entire tutoring consultation. (ie. "Yes Lenovo, that topic sentence is on point!") I got some funny looks from the student, but they didn't correct me and were probably trying to be polite. They left the consultation pretty damn quickly, and it wasn't until my colleague pointed out afterwards (whilst in a fit of hysterics) that Lenovo Signature is a laptop brand. I had never heard of it before.

Text - I still haven't recovered and will probably never show my face at work again. Lenovo girl, if you're reading this, I am very sorry! TI;dr: called a student the name of their laptop brand without realising that wasn't actually their name.
